Oncology Massage is designed for anyone living with, having treatment for or recovering from any form of Cancer.
Understanding the implications of surgery, the side effects of Chemotherapy drugs, low immunity and the effects of Radiotherapy on the skin of my clients has required specialist training.
Massage has been used for thousands of years to provide relaxation, pain relief, improved sleep quality and increased range of movement. In those clients living with a cancer diagnosis, it has also been shown to reduce symptoms such as stress, nausea, pain, fatigue and depression. Gentle touch from a properly trained therapist can help with the physical and emotional impact of the testing procedures and treatments that are being provided by the medical profession.
Please remember though that Massage is a complementary therapy and should only be used in conjunction with specialist medical treatment from your doctor. Please discuss with your medical team if you are considering using massage to help ease any of your symptoms.
If you are already used to receiving regular massage from before your diagnosis, you may find that your goals for treatment are now different. Gentle and light touch is the key to helping your body continue on its’ healing journey and you may be surprised that your massage now needs to be more “spa” than “deep tissue”. However, this treatment will still be a powerful way to create relaxation in the mind and body. Over a number of appointments, I can work with you to explore what pressure level and techniques are right for your ever-changing symptoms and strength.
Even if you are fully healed and in remission, the medical treatments you received will have had a lasting impact on you. So, if you would like to find out more about how I might be able to help you, please get in touch for a chat.
